So...??? How did it go on your own?
What did you think of the film? Anything surprise you? Anything make you laugh? Did it make you think about things you would or wouldn't do in your own classroom? I am so curious to know -- I am really sorry I had to miss that discussion!
Would love to hear some comments if you get a chance.

Class went well. I thought the film was really interesting. It is amazing to see how much information children really know about topics such as gayness. Parts of the film were funny also, the way the children described what they thought gayness was.
I thought it was interesting how some teachers are using the media in their classroom. One teacher was showing the students pictures of famous gay people on magazines, in books, etc. I feel this is a positive way the media can teach children intead of the negative feedback and misinformation on gays that are normally told through such avenues as television and music.
I thought class went pretty good overall. The video was pretty interesting. Like Nicole said, I was surprised how most oft he kids knew so much about the topic of gayness in the third and fourth grade! It was simply crazy!
I agree! It was very interesting... and I couldn't believe some of the things I heard. It changed my opinion on some things. And the video on my post from the day before on Carlson was in the movie!
I was also really surprised to learn what children thought gayness was. I especially liked the activity the teacher did with the students where they wrote down all the different words that came to mind when they heard the word "gay." I liked the comment that one of the middle school girls said about how "teachers in school are supposed to supply students with all of the facts and let the students make up their own minds about these issues." I think that the video showed how creating a dialogue helps students understand the truth about gayness just like Carlson says in his article.
I would say class went well.. The movie was really interesting. It brought up a lot of interesting points I had never really though about before. I agree with what everyone else is saying.. i didn't realize how much the kids knew at such a young age! I also liked how each teacher used a different technique to talk about gayness in their classroom.
I PERSONALLY ENJOYED THE FILM... I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY HOW THEY DONT TEACH YOUNG CHILDREN ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THEY ARE MORE INFORMED THAN WHAT WE MAY THINK. WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL I HONESLTY DIDNT ABOUT GLBT I THOUGHT EVERY ONE WAS STRAIGHT. BUT THESE CHILDREN KNEW ABOUT IT WHICH I FOUND SUPRISING SINCE "SCHOOLS" DONT TEACH THEM ABOUT THIS.
I thought the film was great. It made me very happy to see teachers talking to kids and teaching them about GLBT and not being afraid of the repercussions. The kids were hilarious and as a lot of others already said I was surprised at how much they already knew going into class!
